SPIRITUAL HELP IN A PRESENT WORLD
WHO PAYS FOR THE TROUBLE? PROPITIATION AND INDEMNIFICATION
[PSALM 99:1-9]
Christianity is an offering of one’s life to be under Lordship of Jesus Christ. Christianity becomes the WAY OF LIFE of the individual who accepts Christ as Lord. Christianity becomes the SERVICE OF LIFE for those under Christ, for his purpose to return humankind back to God.
Under this Lordship, we are the servants of Christ living the way He leads for the purpose of His presenting us to God for His glory. Christ owns us. Christ has paid a cost to own us, thus becoming Lord over us, to lead us back to our Father, God.
This purchasing by Christ has two payment installations that completes the transferring of ownership from Satan to God.
The first “installment payment” made by Christ cost him his life. His life was “payment” for the wrong done towards God in the attack and theft by Satan. Christ’s sacrifice here on earth, was his offering of himself as the propitiation to appease God.
The second installment payment made by Christ was an initial investment for the damage done to us, the stolen property. This payment is called indemnification, or to indemnify liability. What do these terms mean and how do they play a role in our lives as Christians?
WORD DISCOVERY
- Propitiation – (Atonement) The act of appeasing (cool down) and gaining favor from. An atonement for property, actions, or effect. Acknowledging an owed debt.
- Indemnification – (Compensation/Insurance payout) The process of getting a payment or compensation for damage, hurt or loss.
Jesus is both of these for us.
Jesus was sent to earth because Satan had committed an attack and theft against God in both heaven and here on earth. God was left with a loss. What God lost was humankind to sin because of the devil’s influence on man. God responded to this attack and theft by sending Jesus to make the situation right. So, this was decided for Christ’s life to be an appeasement to justify/make amends for the actions of the devil. Also, this sending of Christ was to settle all things back to correct order and operation for God.
Understanding God’s position.
God is the Supreme Authority and God over all things. He is Holy and Pure. He sits on the throne in a place that is beyond human touch or sight. He owns the universe and all of the spiritual realm. The devil violated God’s right of ownership and authority when he attempted to take God’s authority and when he stole man’s hearts (spirit/soul/connection) from God. God deserves payment and atonement for this offense (spiritual crime).
God is not a human, but a Supreme Spirit who must be treated with that honor. Specifically, by the correct honor and glory. So, because of this…money, or things we find on earth were not going to be valuable enough to pay God what he is owed. God cannot use physical materials, so physical payments will not be enough to pay for what God did lose.
The payment would have to be a combination of valuable things that could equal a satisfiable worth.
God lost humankind to sin. Man’s soul “kidnapped” by Satan through manipulation of God’s word.
Now that a life was stolen….a life is to be given as a payment. This is why Christ, accepted the mission, because Christ has the “life” that is valuable enough to pay for an unlimited, innumerable number of lives (souls) that are stolen and lost.
Christ, accepts proffer, the deal to give his life for the innumerable number of lives that would be lost from God’s Kingdom, and he would be given back his position next to God. Christ’s life equals an exponentially infinite number of lives.
There are three important keys to understand about God’s justification for receiving the propitiation and indemnification.
- God’s Holiness and Purity
- God’s Sovereignty and Ownership
- God’s Will and Vision
- His Purity and Holiness requires all things to be respondent to His standard sanctification (not tainted or broken) value. All things must answer the question of purity and holiness.
- His Sovereignty and Ownership requires all things to come under the dominion of all principles and laws of God’s Kingdom. All things must answer the question of obedience and residence.
- His Will and Vision requires all things to seek validation, instruction, and then the correct delegation to meet all questions of stewardship.
GOD KEEPS THE ORDER
PSALM 99:1-9
When something happens, that alters or disrupts that order and structure, there must be a response and counteraction to bring things back to order. (PSALM 99:1-9)
- All things and all events will be answered. Nothing will go unanswered. Ps 99:1
- All things have a place in all of existence, which is both in the spiritual realm and the physical realm. Ps 99:2-5, 103:19-22; 104:1-25
- God does not let anything go unaccounted for. This is who God is. The only Authority and God over all things. Ps 99:6-9; 97:1-12
God’s position, requires an answer from everything that is not God. Job 1:6
God’s presence is the answer for our existence and everything else. Ps 93:1-2
God is who responds when disorder or disruption happens. Ps 94:1-23
The King is Owed
God, The King is owed. He is owed a life for a life. Christ paid the debt for us. Now we owed our lives to Christ, so that Christ can present us to God at the end. God deserves our serviced to this debt and to this response. Romans 12:1,2
Christ did not die for his own pleasure. He did not do so to please himself, but to save us, who cannot save ourselves.
Christ’s, God’s messenger and Son, who came to give a message to the lost…was taken in wickedness and crucified. Although, he returned to back to God, a risen son, the crime of his murder is not absolved by himself. God absolves the murder but requires payment for the taking. Act 2:23-38
Christ came to be the propitiation for our debt to God. Our debt began in the garden when the first sin was committed Genesis 3. From that day in the garden until Christ died…man had accrued so much debt and offenses against God’s law. This debt was insurmountable by any value a human can understand. So, God sent his son to appease this debt (1John 2:1,2) with something more valuable than the sin, his life as The Son.
- What? Matthew 1:21
- How? Galatians 1:4
Salvation (Indemnification) Plan
Our FIRST installment payment to God is accepting Christ as our Lord and Savior. Acts 2:37,38
Our SECOND installment payment to God is our daily lives. Romans 12:1,2
Our THIRD, and final act of paying our debt is to leave this earth as faithful to Christ. Revelation 2:10
This all may seem overwhelming in its detail, but on the contrary, all of this is not difficult once we understand what Christ has done…and why God should get what He deserves as well….getting his children back.
Let’s show our God that we are willing…and He will show us that He is able.
